Cathy’s Plants

Anyone had a Calathea plant? This is my first. The edges of the leaves have been curling like this for a few weeks. Someone suggested it could be the hard water in our area, so I have switched to distilled. Any other thoughts?

They are fussy plants and can do this when in shock or when underwatered.

Hi, yes I have three prayer plants although I’ll probably not be too much help since I grow mine in leca which is pretty uncommon.

These are very fussy plants. I lost mine a few months ago to spider mites, and the leaves began curling in… not saying you have them, just another reason for the leaves to curl. Be sure to inspect your plant for any signs of webbing near the leaf base and the stem.

Ugh Calatheas are beautiful especially the pinstripes Calathea (the one you have) I want one so bad but I am too nervous to kill it

Mine is doing the same thing. I think my air is too dry.

I live in Phoenix, land of the scorching sun. I cannot keep a Calathea going, it’s too dry. I need a mini greenhouse. My next wish… ☺️

A humidifier is the better way to go for consistent humidity. Misting can cause dust buildup, or mold issues on some plants.

I have a calathea too. Finicky plant. Maybe use a humidifier once or twice a week for 6 hours at a time? Seemed to help most of my plants.

I only water mine with rain water and mist with rain water often. I have it in a shady area on my porch and it helps. Like everyone said, these guys are buttholes. They with start to look dry or underwatered with the slightest change in condition.

The guy at the plant store said to water with distilled water - I don’t have much access to rain water. Trying it! Thank you!
