Hello! I am wondering if someone can help me with a dying lavender tree. I have only had it for about 2 weeks and repotted with new soil when I got it. It’s on a southwest facing balcony that is mostly covered. I felt the soul down to 4 inches and it doesn’t feel too wet. Is this over or underwatering?

I’ve read that lavender trees in pots are prone to overwatering. Maybe that’s what’s going on? The soil shouldn’t feel wet between watering; just a bit moist. I use a moisture meter with some of my plants because when they’re in a big pot, they have more moisture to draw from than in a small pot where the water is gone pretty quickly. Also, when you repotted her, did you ensure good drainage?

I have mine in a gritty soil and keep it pretty dry. And it will take all the light it can get. It’s only happy outside. Aren’t fickle plants fun?

It’s outside in the spring, summer and fall. Winter I bring it in and it throws a fit, even in the sunniest window I have. It’s not doing as well this year. I gave it a hard prune and repot at the wrong time (I know better but sometimes it can’t be helped), and it’s been super hot. I’m hopeful it will happy up as the temps drop. 🤞

Thank you both for commenting. I don’t think I’ve overwatered, but the weather where I live has been horribly humid and rainy for 2 weeks straight. I bet it is starved for light. Not sure how I can help it!

You might try a grow light to supplement. Most of what I’ve read on lavender is it’s very difficult to keep inside. Good luck!
