Anyone else having problems with fungus gnats? I keep getting them in the same plants (begonias) that I repotted with MiracleGro all potting mix. They have sand on the top and their draining holes are covered. I don’t know what else to do. I’m also watering them with mosquito bits, but they keep coming back. Help!

Make sure the sand layer is at least half an inch deep, and try bottom watering for a week or two. Hope this helps!

Also, I hear sticky traps are really effective

What helped me IMMENSELY was Mosquito Dunks (Mosquito Bits). They contain a natural bacteria that affects only the larvae’s digestive tracts and causes them to die. You can sprinkle the Bits onto the top of your soil and top water, or, you can soak a half of a Dunk in one gallon of water and bottom water. This DOES NOT KILL ADULTS!! I used the sticky yellow traps for that. Their lifespan is approximately 2 weeks. So, 1: dry out the soil completely, if safe for your plants. 2: bottom or top water with treatment of Mosquito Bits or Dunks. 3: After watering, set traps in the pots and let the adults slowly die!! I had them really bad and this was the method that gave me the best results. Amazon sells the yellow sticky traps like 96 count for some ridiculously low amount of money. I believe you can get the Mosquito Bits/Dunks there, too.

Try systemic granules and the yellow sticky traps. Sprinkle a little on top of the soil every 8 weeks when watering.

Fungus nats have invaded my plants and my house, but I’ve been using yellow stick traps and they seem to be effective!

I have a couple “battle strategies” for gnats: - As most have previously suggested, yellow sticky traps are awesome! Super gross after a couple days, but super effective! You can find these in bulk on Amazon. - Neem oil spray is great for killing gnats in all stages of their lives; as well as, spider mites, powdery mildew, blackspots, whiteflies, and other insects. It’s a pest control used in “organic gardening.” I use Captain Jack’s Neem Oil (on Amazon). - I have a few Katchy devices near plants that I know gnats seem to love. They are like an electric, vacuum sticky trap that lures insects in with a light and then sucks them into a sticky trap. Within my year of using these, I’ve caught mosquitos, gnats, moths, and a few other small insects. (Amazon should be paying me for all the shoutouts.) - I recently discovered a new trick that works well so far! It’s sort of a combination of tricks I’ve read about. I have plant stands with trays underneath to catch runoff when watering. I put a drop or two of Dawn dish soap and a tiny bit of water in the tray and put it back on the stand. The stagnant water lures the gnats in and the dish soap kills them. Hope you’re able to get rid of those little annoyances!!
