Systemic granules!!! They’ve been a life saver for me! I had my first ever thrips infestation over the summer and was able to beat the infestation between alternating between a few different insecticidal soaps and systemic granules… You add a certain amount of systemic to the soil and mix it in to the top inch then water and continue your normal care… it lasts for about 8 weeks before you can add more. It’s great for preventing and treating pests. You should be able to pick it up at your local nursery or like a Home Depot.. depending on where you are you can get it on Amazon too.

Mel I might need to try that. I feel like with bugs I only ever end up playing defense after the fact. I need to learn a good offense.

I hate bugs too! 😭 but I haven’t had any bugs on my plants. Is that common? Do I need to be worried?

the common bugs that come with houseplants are gnats, thrips, mealy bugs, and spider mites. in my 5 years of owning plants i’ve had gnats during summers, thrips once, and spider mites a couple times

I used a neem oil solution I made mixing a few caps full and a bit of dish soap into a spray bottle filled with water and also a “tea” I made soaking mosquito bits in water. I haven’t had any problems in the last year or so and I think the main difference has been switching to a much chunkier potting mix and allow the mix to dry before I water. I thing the pest are attracted to the wet soil.
