Hello everyone, I got this elephant bush with a few of my purchase a few days ago and I have noticed some gold brown crust on some of the leaves which are dropping like a slot machine 😩. When I got it I gave it a neem oil polish and and left it but today I spotted a white thing on one of the branches and a leaf. Can you help me? Not sure if I have a hidden bug infestation and cannot understand why Cassie’s leaves are dropping. I have not noticed anything else even gnats. Any help you can give this novice will be greatly appreciated. Many thanks

Its soil mix might not be right or it might be getting too much water. I don’t hunk it is a pest problem but if you end up repotting to better soil like I suggested you can check then.

Hey Melody, thanks for your assist. I was going to repot in a different soil but I was worried about the infection. Does the brown crust and white thing on the branch not indicate a bug situation?

It looks like you might have mealybugs. Try mixing Dawn dish soap with water and spraying the plant before repotting, it won’t harm your plant and can help get rid of the pests.

Thanks both for the suggestions. I’ll treat and then repot x

It looks like edema or sunburn from the leaves getting wet and exposed to direct sun. I really don’t think it looks like a bug infestation. It’s very common if it was bought from a box store or the leaves got wet from watering and set back outside right after. Keep the leaves dry and avoid placing it anywhere with drafty windows, frequently opening doors, or air vents and it should be fine. Hope this helps. 😊

Thanks Adrian. I have the plant partially situated under a grow light in a room with little to no foot traffic and also I have only bottom watered the plant once. But I will take your suggestions onboard. Thanks for your help
