Hello, I have an alocasia melo and it hasn’t grown at all in months, I had a closer look and what I suspect was a new leaf has died. Will this plant produce another new leaf in its place?

Have you checked for a death plug? Also have you resoiled it at all? Also alocasias looove humidity I take mine in the bathroom every time I shower and then leave it in there with the seam after I get out then I move it to wherever I keep it typically
0 LikesThey shouldn’t need anything to support the leaves they stand on their own nice and firm…I would definitely check for root rot
0 LikesWhat’s a death plug? I repotted it a few months back yes. Can a new leaf grow from the point where the other new leaf died?
0 LikesIt’s basically a netting around the roots that the plant was started in . I found one on an orchid I rescued it’s more of a basket than a net but they can constrict the roots people usually will repot when they bring plants home because of these. The net version is just that & you can cut it & carefully separate it from the plant
0 LikesYeah, I checked for one when I repotted it and it doesn’t have one.
0 LikesYou can def have new growth this plant was literally a nub around Jan / feb . But it also depends on what’s going on
1 LikeWhere would the new growth come from? That same point? Or a new one?
0 LikesMy growth came from the base so the lowest point of the plant . Also there may be corms that grow .
0 LikesI really hope there’s new growth, I’m worrying that the plant won’t be able to grow more now that the new leaf has died
0 LikesI’ve had leaves die & the plant still grows . I transitioned all my alocasias to pon & some lost a leaf & like I said 1 lost everything but the base . It really depends on the cause it can snowball pretty fast if it’s an issue .
0 LikesOkay, fingers crossed I’ll see some growth then. I haven’t actually seen any since I’ve had the plant since March. Is this normal?
0 LikesDoes seem a little slow . What kind of light do you have ? I have no natural light at all . My plants are all under grow lights . Also they tend to not like water from the faucet so I use a water conditioner .
2 LikesWow they’re beautiful! I’m jealous of your collection!
0 Likeslol they are like potato chips 🤪 I’m jealous too though I’ve been wanting a melo
0 LikesIt’s not in direct sunlight but it’s in a fairly bright spot. And I use tap water once every two weeks or so? Like I said before, it’s reasonably new soil too.
0 LikesI had a silver dragon scale do the same thing when I first started my Alocasia journey & it ended up being in my case root rot. I’ve been using pon for my Alocasia but that situation also made me think about my other plants so I started using orchid bark mixed in with soil & started adding perlite as well both are fairly cheap imo . They are divas they want their bed just rt not to wet not too dry . I can’t remember who said it if it was someone on here but think Goldilocks .
