I recently bought a birds of paradise plant which seems to be healthy and growing, but I’m a bit concerned it’s got an infestation. I’ve noticed that every day or the other, I’ll have one or two of these little millipedes underneath the plant either dead or dying. I’m quite new to owning plants so I’ve got no idea if they’ll be hurting or helping the plant? It’s an indoor plant so I’m thinking I’ll need to repot it either way
millipedes are only interested in decaying plant matter. this can be a sign of waterlogged soil, but if the store was keeping it outside this is not uncommon at all. you can treat with an insecticide or, like you said, complete repot with all new soil.

Personally I’ll replant and clean 99% of plants that come inside. I hate the gnats and I never want to see anything crawling out of the soil. If you’re new to this there are tons of educational videos online/social media that can help you learn, as well as continue to ask questions here.

I feel the same way!!!! If I see anything on my plant I get the creeps!

I had this with a plant I bought and I repotted it to get rid of them! I agree with what everyone is saying
1 me gusta Thanks everyone! The place I bought it from stored it outside so that makes a lot of sense. I’ll definitely be repotting!
