Calathea Dottie Anyone know what’s causing this? Had it for about 5 months w no issues. It’s in an east facing window so my thought is perhaps sunburn from more light exposure…. Any help is welcomed!

Calatheas (Goepertias) prefer high humidity and they don’t thrive if you let the soil completely dry up. They need constant moisture, but I’ve never seen one brown like that. Check for bugs?

I have the same type of calathea — and it has been a harrowing journey. Mine is in a south facing window but only gets bright indirect light (after a lot of trial and error). I’ve found the leaves are really sensitive to the sun, so make sure it isn’t being exposed to ANY direct sunlight. I haven’t struggled too much with pests, but I do use the sticky pads to keep fungus gnat populations down. Are you getting any new growth? If it’s just a couple of leaves like this, I would just monitor the light exposure, but wouldn’t be too concerned.

I also use distilled water for my Calatheas. It helps keep them from getting crispy edges from whatever it is in tap water they don’t like. (I can’t remember which thing it is at the moment). Alternatively, you could use tap water if you let it sit out overnight & whatever it is evaporates. 😊
