Hello. I got this fig a little over a month ago. Its bottom leaves have started getting some spots and turning yellow. I repotted it to a pot with better drainage and the roots looked fine at the time but it has gotten more spots since then. I have a grow light on it but is the room too dark for it? This is the light it gets in the morning. Or is it a watering issue? Or is it just upset from a repot? I want to help treat the issue before it gets any worse. Any advice is much appreciated! Thank you so much!

It could be many things. Adjusting to your home still, adjusting to the repot. My FLF loves to be right in the window with lots of bright indirect light. They love to “see the sky”. Also they need humidity!

Bright indirect light at least 6 hours a day so your plant light might not be enough. Keep it moderately moist but not overly soggy, good well draining house plant soil or a 50/50 mix of house plant soil and cactus mix. Water when the top inch or two of soil is dry. If it's too dry the leaves will be dull. FLF our sensitive to salts so either use filtered or distilled water or if you use tap water, flush the pot thoroughly once a month to flush out the salts. Average room temperature and humidity but they don't like drafts from heat or air conditioners or constant swings in temperature or humidity. Basically they don't like change. Fertilize once a month during the growing season. And organic fertilizer would be best since they don't like salts and choose one that has higher nitrogen. In the analysis that is on all fertilizer packages the first number is nitrogen.

Do you lift the plant pot out of the cover pot when you water? If you do not then you don't really know if your water is getting to the bottom of the pot and you also may be letting it sit in the drain water. Brown spots can often indicate root rot. The spots can also be caused by temperature fluctuations. You should either wipe down the leaves with neem monthly or at least dust them off. Dust can actually cause reduced photosynthesis.

Yes I lifted the pot out of the cover pot to water it and let it drain out the bottom for a while before putting it back in the cover pot. I have been using tap water to water it so maybe that is the issue and our heat broke this last week so the temperature did drop a little bit for a couple days but it is fixed now. I will also check the fertilizer to see what kind it is and what’s in it. Thank you so much for all this helpful information!!
