Worried about this Begonia- BRAND new to gardening and picked this up at a nursery the other day, repotted it and put it in a shady part of a greenhouse but it doesn’t seem happy… any suggestions?

I had a begonia at my office that wasn’t doing too great, until I put one of those cheap fertilizer sticks in it and it has lasted for years now!

I’m not an expert but that pot looks a little big to me. I have had this one in the same small pot for two years now. I will repot it soon but it has been very happy. When I started with plants my #1 issue was using pots too big for the root balls, leading to root rot. Some other tips I’ve learned the hard way: don’t repot a new plant straight away-let it acclimate to its new surroundings for a couple of weeks. Quarantine the new plant so if there are undetected pests on it they don’t infect your other plants. Don’t fertilize, repot, and/or treat plants for pests all at the same time. It can shock them. Finally, many plants like to dry out in between watering (idk that begonia is one of those though). Planta prompts to water are your chance to CHECK if they need water, not necessarily gospel. A cheap moisture meter from Amazon is my trusted guide. Sorry so long but I wish you lots of luck!

Thank you so much! I’ll let it acclimatise and repot it smaller!!

Oh! One more thing this Planta community seems to agree on is Miracle Gro is a heavy soil, I almost always mix in perlite or orchid bark or both, depending on the plant, to keep the soil draining properly.

Looks like it needs more light. My begonias love the sun and lots of water.
