My husband brought me home two little Willow trees from the clearance rack at the grocery store. (We both always check and he's under strict orders to always grab the plants there. Lol). They just look a little off to me. The leaves seem to be whitish and some are drying up. Is that normal? I know I need to move them into a bigger pot or put them in the ground but I just haven't gotten to it yet.

Are they variegated? If so, that’s amazing I didn’t know willow trees were! But also, I don’t know much about outdoor plants (all indoor lady). Have you seen any pests on the plant? Or could it potentially be a watering issues. Brown and crispy Id say drying out to fast or long?

That's why I had to ask, because I am an indoor plant lady too. lol I haven't seen any pests and the soil hasn't gotten dry since I've had it. Although it may have dried out at the store.

They look like Hakuro Nishiki s or Japanese dappled willows. They make beautiful plants/ shrubs or trees. The thing to be mindful is that they grow very quickly and let out amazing copious shoots of leaves and foliage during their blooming season. So you ideally don’t want them in a place where you may have to prune them often. I have mine planted by my house’s previous owners outside my front bay windows, which means they grow to block all view out that window, and I have to prune their most striking features off more than once every year.

Thanks. That's what the tag said they were. I was thinking about planting them outside but not sure where yet. Do they handle New England winters OK?

😅I am surprised at the growth of my botanical know how. They do New England winters well. I am in NJ. They make nice winter interest when their leaves drop off, leaving nice reddish branches. Apparently they come in both bush and trees varieties. The attached pic shows them at 10 ft tall.
