I got this from clearance at Walmart today! This is the root system.. should I plant in soil or water?

    You could plant them. I personally would put them in water for just a few days and give them a chance to grow longer so they can take a better hold of the soil.

      Yeah I put them in some water with prop drops and fertilizer maybe that would help for now

    Ouch that is a bad case of root rot! those little strings are just left overs from the roots that rotted away, cut them back and try to get all the mushy parts off the stem. Soak in 1 part hydrogen peroxide 2 parts water for at least 20 minutes and then put them in water and let them sit for a few weeks to see if they will bounce back. Change the water every week or so and it’s ok to put like a tablespoon of hydrogen peroxide in the water propagation jar too. Prop drops are fine but do not add fertilizer to unrooted plants ever.
