Golden goddess philodendron. What is this? Appeared basically today as I checked yesterday. Almost transparent. Not sticky, just smooth. Otherwise super happy plant that just spit out a new leaf, and has another apparently on the way. Would like to fix asap to keep her happy.

The sheath on the new leaf also turned soft and brown and kinda died off. Its soil moisture is good according to my meter and I have it under grow lights, with a fan nearby.

A dark spot with a yellow ring is frequently a form of black spot, a nasty fungus I have dealt with too many times to count! Many people will tell you to use a neem spray, but I have resorted to a copper fungicide, which is a bit stronger, and so far, it’s never damaged any of my plants. First, if it is black spot, remove any affected leaves. Then you need to spray once every 7 to 10 days, four times in a row, and then keep a really good watch to see if it appears on any other leaves later. I hope it’s not black spot, but just in case, quarantine your plant until you know what’s going on. Best of luck!

Thank you! I just looked up pictures of black spot and to what I see it doesn’t look very similar at all. It could just be early stage, but it isn’t even remotely black. On my plant it’s more transparent? Like if I hold something colored behind it you can kinda see through it. Should I cut the leaf anyways? I appreciate your response. No idea how it could’ve happened if it’s the black spot. ):

You’re right, once black spot ages, it goes from a clear yellow white circle to a dark spot, which is the reason I could not ID it at first in my own plants. I eventually went to Planta, and actually asked for some in-depth research, and came back with some very good info. You might want to take a few pictures, and do the same thing I did, and see what they tell you. In the meantime, I would definitely cut that leaf off. One way or another, one less leaf isn’t going to harm your plant. I’m still fighting with black spot today, and what I am always looking for, is that whitish-yellow spot. If I can help in any way, just ask. Best of luck!
