I keep getting a white fungus on the soil of a couple o plants. I tried the natural remedies and it works for a while. I don’t want to throw my plant away It’s not a pest problem. I tried vinegar and baking soda and peroxide and even cinnamon. Help!!! I don’t overwater my plants and I use distilled water on my plants. It’s only affecting two of my plants

If your plant is really healthy, I'd do a complete repot. Remove as much soil as you can and clean off the roots with diluted hydrogen peroxide (4:1 water to H2O2). I drench the roots in that stuff. Replant and hope for the best! So far this treatment has worked with all the plants I've treated for white fungus. Just make sure your plant is in a position to handle some repot stress

I've done this for my Ficus benghalensis, Split-leaf philodendron, Chinese evergreen, and Snake plant 👍🏻

Fungus needs constant moisture to thrive. Ensure the soil dries out between waterings. The complete soil changeout as recommended above is the fastest way to get rid of persistent fungus. I found many popular standard potting mix carry a lot of spores that produce fungus. Many nurseries bake their soil to kill off seeds, spores and pests.

I've heard about this! Kinda gross but if you're that devoted a plant owner some people bake potting soil in their oven 😨 I could never

How do you know if the new potting soil is any better? Which kind should I get?

Get potting soil that suits the plant the best. I've never had issues with a certain brand causing a bunch of problems, but maybe Sunny has opinions on that. If you want to be safe you can store soil in an airtight container to avoid pests crawling inside the bag after opening

I am not that devoted. I’ve tossed a few plants out without regret. I wouldn’t bake soil in my oven. That is gross. 😃

I would never bake soil in my kitchen. I have several portable stoves from my hurricane preparedness kit (butane gas stove, electric induction cook top, mini clay charcoal grill) and an old cast iron Dutch oven that I never use for cooking. I line it with heavy duty aluminum foil. Works for me.

I heard of putting boiling water in the new potting soil. Can you really do that?

I wouldn't pour boiling water on a plant, but I guess you could water the soil (without a plant inside) with boiling water, let it dry out, then fill the pot

Or let it cool down and fill the pot with wet soil?
