Hi my lovely people. It’s me again asking for pests advice. I got this beauty from the clearance section at Lowe’s she looks good but we all know garden centers and full of pests. I saw someone quarantines their plants in garbage bags and I wanted to know if any of you had tried that method, if it works, if it’s safe or what are your preferred methods for quarantine. Thanks in advance and anything helps and will be very much appreciated 🤗

Great question. I’m anxious to see the answers too!

Yeah they posted in another group with pictures of how they did it. They sprayed the plants with an insecticide and tied the bag. They said spraying them creates a humid environment that keeps the plant alive and since there’s no air circulation it kills the pest quicker.

This is something I’m really bad about. I don’t want to go to that much trouble but one of these days I may be sorry for not doing it. I usually bring them into my craft room that I use plant care. Spray them with insecticidal soap, and leave them for a few days. Come back, repot looking very closely for any pests, into fresh soil. I add Bonide systemic at this point. Spray again doing a pest check. Then put them in line to go into my hoard. Last week I had a few fungus gnats come out of a pot. Turned on my blue bug catcher light for a few nights and have not seen anymore.

I been doing that too but then again I’m very new to the plant world so I’ve been looking into different methods to see what works best. Also, any recommendations on the bug catcher light you use?

The ones i get from Home Depot, I just give them a good shower then spray them down with Bioadvanced 3 in 1. I haven't had any issues yet and that's where most of my common plants came from

I use lukewarm water so it doesn't shock the plants.

Whenever one of my plant babies has pest I quarantine them away from the others and repot them completely. Throw out the soil and put fresh new soil after rinsing and wiping the pot down. Then spray some water mixed with Neem Oil (you can get it in Amazon) on the roots and soil. Neem Oil prevents the pest from growing in the moist soil. I would check on them frequently and monitor their growth and reactions as this can also stress the plant out or put it into shock😭

When I get new plants I quarantine them pretty far away from any of my other plants - I check for root rot and bugs ! - I spray them down with neem oil and also put diatomaceous earth on all of mine at all times (this gets rid of the bugs in the soil ) I do wait a least a day before repotting as it can cause shock if you do it too quickly!

How often you use the diatomaceous earth?
