What happened to my plant? It might be from over watering - my toddler had a go at it with water a month ago. I haven’t watered it since. But also shortly after we watered it, the LA fires happened…do you think I can save her? She looks droopy and less vibrant in color. Left photo is before…right photo is now.

Is the soil still wet at all?

I would water it and give it a few days

How far is this from a window? My first recommendation would be to place it within 2 feet of a window since they need a lot of light

It’s about 20 feet away from the window! I just moved it closer. We have a lot of indirect sunlight that comes into our living space but now that it’s winter, it makes sense I need to move it closer to the window

If soil is still wet, I would take it out of the pot and help the soil to dry out. Check the roots while you’re at it too.

I’m going to bring it to the nursery today. Maybe it needs repotting? I’m scared to water it because it looks droopy and I remember someone at the nursery said if it’s droopy it means you’ve overwatered it.

I would take her out of the pot and check the roots and go from there depending on root health

That’s exactly what I will do! I’m bringing it to the nursery today for some help because she’s my first plant ever and I’m a novice at this!

I repotted it in a bigger pot. The soil was so dry…partly due to me neglecting it for the last 2 months. I think she wasn’t watered for 6 weeks. Where has the time gone? I’m a first time mama to a toddler and also we were going through the LA fires. Ruby is doing much better. Watered her until she drained from the hole. She’ll be relocated to a place closer to the window.

I am so sorry to hear that you’re dealing with the LA fires! I can’t imagine how challenging and scary that must be, especially as a first time mama! But I’m happy to hear your plant is doing well! Every time I buy a rubber tree, it always comes with a surprise gift of spider mites, so I 1000% recommend you treat for pests like neem oil for precaution! Much love💗
