OK, what am I doing wrong here? This is my second pink princess philodendron, I got them both from Meijer and the soil they were in was like kinetic sand. It was so spongy & waterlogged my first one, which after about 2 weeks I ended up re-potting in a chunky soil mix, but it was already too late for her. The soil they came in, literally was still saturated a week after I watered it. The pot had adequate drainage holes and I only watered it one time, but the roots were already so rotted and I just couldn’t save her. So this is my second pink princess philodendron - from Meijer again. I added photos, there was already some mold on it when I bought it because it just holds water. So needless to say, she wasnt in the most healthy condition when I brought her home, but definitely not too far gone! This time, I repotted it as soon as I brought it home- which I usually wait two weeks, but I wasn’t going to risk it drowning again in that soil. I have used a soil mix with coco husk, perlite, clay balls, I think some bark in there too. I also put it in a smaller pot, as recommended by somebody on here. Maybe the pot is still too big, but I’ve noticed some of the leaves browning and getting a little floppy too, I don’t know if it’s in shock, or it’s just that one leaf, or really what’s going on here… So what am I doing wrong? This one is such a beautiful variegate, I want to save it by ANY means necessary. Granted, It wasn’t in the most healthy state when I first brought it home, but after repotting, I haven’t seen the improvements I thought I would by now. I’ve wanted a pink princess for so so so long, and maybe it’s just that I’m getting them from Meijer, but as I said, I want to save it by any means necessary. Is the pot still too big? Is the soil not chunky enough? Is it not getting enough light? (In a north facing window rn, i have grow lights but haven’t used them) Or, should I just cut my losses now and try to propagate what’s there? Any and all suggestions / comments are welcome and much appreciated!!

You may not be doing anything wrong. The plant may have been on the way out when bought and beyond being fixed. It sounds like you did it right with the better soil. What did the roots look like when you repotted? Their condition would be an indicator of the plant’s health. The store may have some one caring for the plants that knows nothing about them or even cares. All you can do is water correctly and provide the right amount of light….and hope.

Before you repotted did youblook at the roots were they healthy? also when you repotted did you water it if so that might have been the problem especially if it was already soggy

Before repotting if it was water logged it would’ve helped to let it air out for 4-6 hours. Then repot it in moist soil and then water in 3-4 days. I had to do this with my pothos and evergreen that were super overwatered in store and they are now growing back nicely. Give it some time and if no improvement take it out the soil and remove any dead roots (brown stringy roots) and then let it air out for a couple of hours. Then repot in a chunky mix and hope for the best.
