Can anyone help me save this? I think it might be a philodendron. It was in a hanging basket when given to me. I want to trim it off and restart from the stem. Is that possible? New to this, so be nice 😅

This is what Planta says. Not sure though.

Yea that’s what it told me as well, but unless it looks way different fully grown, this thing is teensy haha. It may be a pothos looking harder, which does look like I can take the node and use water. Maybe I’ll just go for it!

That looks way more like a philodendron stalk than a pothos but I could be wrong. Regardless, trim off the dead parts and try to propagate as many points as possible!

This part here makes me think dieffenbachia over philo/pothos. First step, get it out of that pot and look at the roots. You can also take all the dying leaves off; dieffenbachia can prop from just the stalk. You should be able to cut the stem in half and have two chances. I would put the rooted stalk into a pot about an inch bigger than the root ball. The upper stalk can go into a small pot as well. Make sure you're using the correct type of soil for dieffenbachias and water both when the soil in the first third of the pot dries out.

Hm, I’m not quite sure but I know a lot of my plants that have this type of trunk, the best way to check if it’s still alive is to lightly scape the trunk with something sharp. If it’s green it’s okay and still had a chance, if it’s no longer green it maybe dead. I maybe wrong though, I do not own this plant (this technique is usually done with bonsai, money trees, etc.)
