Look carefully! What are those white spots on the back of the leaves… | Pests, diseases and problems | Plantaコミュニティ

Look carefully! What are those white spots on the back of the leaves of my Celibes pepper? She has been sprayed three times with neem and the white spots seem to reoccur a few days after the spray. These little spots will get a bit larger and be very obvious, which it was the first time I saw them. Anybody have any idea what it is? How do I treat it? A big TXS. 😊💚🪴

Looks like spider mite eggs. The video “How to Kill Spider Mites on Houseplants” by the YouTuber Heart Shaped Leaves is really great

It could also be from the leaves pores(?)- all of the chemicals from tap water if that’s what you are using seaping out possibly. Some of my plants do it and are still healthy :)

I only use filtered water, so I don’t think it’s chemicals from the water. But I think you might be right about her leaking something from her pores. Any suggestions about what I should do? What do you do with that stuff on the back of your leaves that looks like that? 😊💚🪴

You are right about the fact that my plant is healthy; she’s still putting out new leaves and appears great, which I thought was interesting. She isn’t acting like she’s sick. 😊💚🪴

See if the spots have legs. Check for adult spider mite and their webs. It’s probably not spider mites if you can’t find any movement or webs. It’s likely excess salts/water put out by the leaf cells (guttation). Also, some plants secrete sticky sugary sap to attract beneficial insects like ants. 🍀🪴

No, the spots don’t have legs, so I don’t think they’re spider mites and I don’t see any webs. Plus, she’s been sprayed three times with neem oil so I just don’t think it’s possible that they’re spider mites; they would be dead, dead, dead, right? I think you may have the right idea. As somebody else also suggested, it must be something she’s leaking from her pores. Do I just ignore the white spots, do I wipe them off, is there anything I should do about them? I didn’t know this was possible for a plant to leak stuff like that. TXS for that information. 😊💚🪴

It’s normal for plants to get rid of excess water/minerals. It doesn’t look overwatered. No wilting yellow leaves. Ensure it has good air circulation which helps with water evaporation from the soil and drying water vapors released through the leaves. 🍀🪴
