My poinsettia has lost many leaves since I brought her inside to avoid freezing. Today I was cleaning up leaves and one of the branches bent back in half and then broke off! The center of the stem was hollow! I started compressing all of branches and found they were all squishy. All of them were hollow. What happened?.

Poinsettias need full sun, higher humidity and warm temperatures. Cold weather or cold drafts can cause leaf drop. Inconsistent or overwatering can cause rot leading to rotten stems. Insufficient light can cause leaf drop, as well. Low humidity from home heating can cause dry leaves that eventually fall off if it also has other issues.
