I got this Bougainville plant a few days ago and placed it in my backyard where it gets full sun, direct sunlight from sunrise to sunset. I live in Texas and the weather right now is 70F-100F. I’m watering it every 2 days but I noticed that the flowers are turning yellow and also the leaves. Does anybody have any suggestions?

A couple of things: 1. Does the pot have drainage 2. Are you checking the soil before watering, or just watering like clockwork If you don’t have good drainage and/or aren’t checking the soil for wetness before watering, it’s most likely an overwatering issue. If this is the case, make sure you’re actually checking that the soil has partially dried before watering, and that you have drainage holes and well-draining soil. Other than that, it could be lack of nutrients, or too much direct sunlight throughout the day.

The less likely but similarly displayed problem would be under watering. If you’re checking the soil and it’s completely dry by the time you water, you may want to start checking every day in case she’s more thirsty than you realize. Wooden chopsticks make good moisture meters on the fly; insert the chopstick 2-3 inches or more into the soil and check for dampness when you pull it out. If there’s moisture on most of the inserted portion, wait another day and check again. If there’s hardly to no moisture and the soil just dusts off, definitely water her 😊

Thank you!! This is very helpful. I will try the chopsticks tip.
