Fungus Gnats! Hi, so a while ago my boyfriend and I started to notice fungus gnats in one of his plants. and he bought some Neem Oil spray after it started to get pretty bad which seemed to knock em all out - my plant, Cherri, had very few showing up on the traps I had bought so I didn't use it. At her previous watering (a bit late) I noticed some more showing up and gave her a good spritz and replaced the trap - I also made my own trap to the side with some sugar water and dishsoap (no apple cider vinegar as we were out). A few days ago I gave her a light spritz as it had been over a week, and I left her in her spot and went a bit longer before watering her today (4 days late). When I watered her this morning I noticed a lot more on the sticky trap, so I sprayed her again halfway through watering then after finishing up I noticed a bunch of tiny little baby gnats crawling around (I also think I should note that the water which drained out of the drainage hole was yellow in color and idk what that means). Do I need to repot her again? Replace the soil? I'm really trying my best here and I don't want to lose her as she's doing SO good with new leaf sprouts.

    Sweetie neem oil doesn't work for gnats.Get some mosquito bits and put them in the soil. They live in the top of soil about an inch down so i would bottom water for awhile. You can make the mosquito bits into a "tea" and water them. Also you can put some old fruit in a cup with plastic wrap around the cup with a rubber band to keep the plastic in place. Poke holes with a toothpick and set them around your plants. The gnats would much rather have the old fruit. When the cup is pretty full put something on top of the cup so they don't fly out and make a mad dash to the dumpster or garbage outside. I hope this all makes sense. But this should get rid of them..

    I had an awful fungus gnat infestation last year and tried everything. Sticky traps (two per plant), mosquito bits, hydrogen peroxide, and holding back on watering. NONE of it worked. Finally, my last resort was to repot every plant in my house. I took all the plants out of their pots in the backyard and immediately dumped the soil. Then I rinsed each plant thoroughly under the hose in case any gnats or eggs were hiding out there. Then I let each plant sit in a bucket of water for about 5 days, changing the water in the bucket every day. I also bleached and cleaned each pot. Finally after all that, I put the plants back in their pots with really good soil and a vow to never buy miracle grow again. After doing some research I think a miracle grow bag of soil might be how I brought them home in the first place. Good luck!

    When I had an infestation I changed all the soil in the worst affected plants, put traps in all of them so I could see if they’d spread to others. I also try hard not to leave my plants sitting in any residual water after watering, I notice that makes it much worse. What worked best for me for the ones flying around was to put plastic wrap over the top of a bowl partially filled with all sorts of fermenting stuff - I’m sure there are proper instructions online but I used what I had: a live apple cider vinegar and a little liquid probiotic that I noticed they were always hovering around, and water and a little dish soap to break the water surface tension. I poked holes in the wrap for them to fly in and then they get caught by the liquid. Last time, I left this gross bowl by my plants for a couple weeks and it pretty much cleared them up.
