First time mama here for such a big and unique (to me) plant. I bought Burgundy (Ficus Burgundy) about a month ago for my birthday. But I can’t seem to help her stop losing leaves. I keep seeing them turn yellowish and then fall off. I am using the Planta app to tell me when to water her (about once a week), but it still isn’t helping. Please help! Here are a few things: 1) I did not repot her 2) The soil feels dry all the time from top to bottom. I don’t want to overwater her (feed once a week and only until the water starts to drain from the drain holes) 3) She is less than a foot away from a window with sheer white curtains 4) I have a covered vent on the floor near her but the house stays at 70-72 degrees and there is no direct breeze/wind hitting her 5) the leaves are wilting (towards the bottom) 6) some leaves are still upright (towards the top) 7) some leaves are yellowish 8) other leaves are split (even though I didn’t do anything to split them)

I think it’s time for a repot! It looks small for the plants’ size and the fact that the soil is often dry leaves me to believe it is out of nutrients and unable to retain enough water for the plant

Thank you! I believe it’s still in its original 14ā€ pot (I bought a cache pot to stick the original pot in), so should I put her in a 16ā€ or larger?

It depends how bound the roots are. If the roots hold the shape of this current pot once you take it out, and the whole things looks wrapped up in the shape of the previous pot, i’d give it more space and do an 18ā€. Everyone does it differently! 16ā€ should likely be adequate.

Wonderful! Thank you for your help. I will share her status once I have repotted her.

It also looks like you have several trees in one pot. You could also try separating them a bit into two different pots to give their roots more space in their pots. Also, if they are a little less crowded, it may allow more light to the inner leaves. I am new to Ficus trees, but no just got one a few weeks ago that had several plants in one pot, and after watching some videos, I opted to separate them out into several pots. I think I got a total of 5 pots.

Wow!! I didn’t know they could be multiples in one. I will look for that when I repot her. Thank you!

If you do separate the plants, make sure your pots are sized according to each plant root system šŸ˜‰
