Started this from a cutting in the spring. Chopped all competing long branches a couple months ago and turned into the cascading style that I was hoping for. Waiting a couple days to let the tree dry out and then I’m going to do some structural wiring before I bring my dwarf jades inside for the winter.

Unknown maple seedling I dug up and potted into a square thrift store bowl. Used a diamond crusted bit to add a drainage hole.
How do I know what to prune? Does anyone have an essential guide on shapes or can anyone share any design principles? I bought this little plant about a month and half ago and have managed to keep it alive.

Few recent additions to the bonsai garden including a forest of Dawn Redwoods!! Split them out across three pots as they were rather crowded and pot bound. Any and all tips on Redwoods would be very appreciated:)

What’s a good leafy, flowering tree i can start and have survive in SF East Bay area (apparently like Mediterranean weather: hot dry summer, cool wet winter)? I’m very much a beginner, i have one bonsai, a weeping fig, that I’ve managed to keep alive for over a decade. I just finished training it into…something. Any advice on what a beginner might get for themself in these conditions? I’ve grown quite fond of succulents. Thanks Cheers
First bonsai ever, repotted from nursery container to shallow pot! Seems to me like a Fukien Tea! Excited to begin this journey! All and any tips welcome, we watched many tutorials!

What is an inexpensive bonsai soil mix yah’ll use. There isn’t any premixed soil around me, and I fear that the ones online will be a bit too expensive for my plant budget. This is the only pic I have of my bonsai right now.
My fukien tea that started as a rescue project last summer flowered for the first time in March and has been giving me gorgeous blooms ever since :,) my first bonsai success
Just did some pruning on my Elephant Jade Bonsai. Goal was to primarily promote back budding for a denser canopy as a lot of the branches are long and bare after a harsh transition to inside last fall. Ended up doing a little styling and hope by mid/end of summer I can make more design changes.

My bonsai is sadly struggling. It transformed from a lush leafy and happy tree (pictured in October 2025) into the sad tree you see now (pictured 5th May). It’s now completely leafless! A scratch test revealed green underneath. I’m misting the branches a few times a day to prevent them from drying out, hoping this will encourage new buds and leaves. Could anyone offer some advice on how to revive it?
Hi all This is my daughters ginseng bonsi I took over custodian of just over a year ago. It lost a lot of leaves and looked nearly dead but I managed to revive it. This is as far as I have got, with regular watering and fertilising. I also packed out the soil as it has lost some. Any ideas on how to get more leaves? I live in the UK and the plant is on a south facing window. I thought about repotting it but that would only be cleaning out the current pot and putting back what it’s in already, which I think is mostly loose stones/pebbles. I don’t think there’s any soil in it (I didn’t do the repotting). Thank you for any advice you can give.
