I got my first bonsai yesterday and am unsure of what to do with it. I plan on moving it closer to my window but I am unsure of the species it is and what would be the best way to get it to grow. Any tips are welcome!

My mom just bought this plant, and when I looked it up it’s called ginseng ficus, but the pictures all have a brown, tree like stem while this one is green all over the bottom of it, also, is it normal for the leaves to have those little white dots? It’s from Costco, and it’s in a pot with no drainage holes, I guess I should probably re pot it, but if those white dots are pests or something, how do I deal with them? Also, when I identified this plant in the app, there was both a regular ginseng ficus, and a ginseng ficus “golden gate”, can anyone identify which one this is? Because mine didn’t really match either picture😭😭

Hi can anyone help why has my tree gone back to this when it was like the 2nd photo couple weeks ago

Another before and after for a prune job on my arborvitae (think it’s a white cedar?). Not sure what I’m really going for, took a lot off to get a better idea of the branch structure. Going to sit with it for a while until I get some more inspiration and gain a solid idea of where I want to go with it. Would love any ideas or input!

PS: this is my first ever tree. After 2 or so years of bonsai, there are some cuts I wish I could take back, but I’m rolling with what I’ve got.

Hi! I got a little kit to make a bonsai tree and am growing Nordic spruces from seeds. I was out of town for about a week and my seedlings started to wilt and get yellow. I’ve been consistently watering and trying to get it more light but not sure how to get them up and healthy again… any advice?

Does anyone know when I should do defoliation or if I should do it at all this year?

I posted on 2/19 after pruning. Since then, as you can see, the tree has been under extreme stress. The outer bark is separating from the top down, near to the base of the trunk. It’s seemed a bit healthier after ceasing to water it, so I was probably over watering it earlier. The roots still have great structure. Will this tree recover? Any tips for giving it the best chance? Thank you!

I got Elmer about a month and a half ago. Overwatered him, so he yellowed and had about half leaf drop! Little buds have formed, how long till canopy is restored? Also, I’m getting mixed advice on watering him. Would he like 3-4 days between watering? Or maybe more like a week in late February in central Florida?

First off…I know some of my decisions weren’t best practice, but it worked out lol. Seeking any advice as a novice. I bought this ficus in December and moved it from it’s nursery pot to the blue one temporarily until I found a a shallow pot I liked to plant it in its home. I pruned it 28 days ago, and re-potted it into its long-term home 21 days ago. I’ve done quite a bit of chopping as you can see, and I’m growing lots of new leaves and limbs. I now plan to let many of the branches grow thick over 2026 before re-evaluating. Is it recommended for regular pruning of the thin branches that I want to grow thick? Or, would it be best to leave it be for about 6-8 months, then resume pruning? **Nature permitting, my plan is to significantly expand the width of the trunk and the main, exposed roots. I’d be happy with about 2-3 more inches of height, but that’s it. Years from now I want a chunky trunk with fat limbs, and short stalky branches.

Good news for me new leaves starting to come in 😊

Hello this bonsai I got through 1-800 flowers 1 year ago in memory of my dad who passed right before Christmas it was growing a lot and doing so well till about a month ago it started to turn very brown I don’t trim it a lot and it’s still in its original pot but has grown a lot what can I do to help it

Also, not to spam the group but I’ve been growing my gollum jade for over a year now. I was thinking of turning him into a bonsai? Is it too late to start/ is it a bad idea? I really like this plant so I don’t want to do anything that would kill it but I also think that the bonsai version of them are really cool!
