Update on GINNY, my ginseng ficus.... We are now bff ❤️❤️❤️

Where would be the best place to prune this branch, considering the very few leaves on the left half vs the more full right half? Or don’t prune at all? I’m trying to promote branching.

A friend gifted me this Ginseng Ficus. She said it is a bonsai. I believe it’s a little above my plant parent skill level but it’s gorgeous and I’d really like to keep it alive. Looked up some basic care info: bright, indirect light, water when too soil is dry. It’s under a good grow light for 12 hours a day while it’s on plant quarantine 🤣 Eventually I was thinking of moving her into an east facing window which gets several hours of great sun (direct but not harsh) each morning. Would that work? As for the soil, doesn’t look great right now but it’s from a reputable garden so probably fine. I ordered a new soil mix with akadema, lava, pumice and pine bark but will wait a few weeks to repot/make changes. I think she’s a little stressed from her move to my home - dropped a few leaves last night. I would greatly appreciate any guidance, tips, best practices from everyone. Thanks!

I have a small PA that I purchased a few moths ago. It has two thick branches that come off the main trunk as you see in the photo. I’m not sure if I would consider this as aesthetically pleasing as a PA with one main thick trunk with its offshoot branches coming from it. Would anyone ever think about splitting these two thick branches into two separate trees?

Lightly pruned

I’m trying to grow this Portulacaria Afra cutting but in the last couple days it doesn’t seem to be doing well. I water it every 4-5 days. Two other cuttings from the main bonsai are doing well. What should I do with this one?

Hey so I got my first ever plant for my bday a little bonsi is where it is okay and it is a elm one if anyone has any tips for me please let me know I really do not want to end up killing it thanks ☺️

I keep my PA indoors at a south facing window and it gets several hours of sunlight per day. I’ve read that it would do better outside but there really isn’t that great of a spot for me to keep it outdoors because I have a covered patio which kills most of the sunlight. From my patio there’s a 5 foot drop to the lawn, accessible by stairs. I use a wheelchair so I can’t get to my back yard easily unless I go through the front door and around the house to the back yard. Even that is not very easy for me. I’m not sure how fast a PA is supposed to grow and I feel I’m doing it a disservice keeping it indoors but it’s where I’m able to best enjoy it and care for it. Am I overthinking this?

Just re styled my 12 yr old Cascade Juniper, repot in Feb 2026… very happy with results! Hope you all like it…I’m about 3 yrs into creating Bonsai but this one was my first as a plant many years ago, just started working on it. I have several others but this is my favorite and first! Any advice or thoughts?

My very young Portulacaria Afra looks to be developing some exposed roots. I know that’s desirable for some, as a design choice, but is it ok for a tree this young to have uncovered roots?
