I was gifted this Chinese Elm a few months back, my first Bonsai. It had spent far too long in a gift wrapped box 📦 🤦♀️ I’d no idea what was inside it Worse still when I opened it, loads of the crappy coco fibre substrate had been displaced & most of the roots were exposed 😳 So no doubt despite being the wrong time of year & when the poor fella was already stressed it experienced a repotting. Fair to say my First Bonsai got off to a hideous start although I did use a specialist Bonsai Mix to replant it back into the same pot instead of the coco fibre. Getting to the point (I think the history is important here???), All the new leaf growth circled in Red is huge compared to older leaves circled blue. Is this a sign of the stress it was under, should I be doing something else like pruning (it’s really lost it’s lovely shape) or should I just leave it be till it’s had some time to recover?
