Rescued this guy from the Walmart clearance shelf but idk what it is. I’ve never had a bonsai before (always wanted one though), but I figured for $7 it couldn’t hurt to try and bring this one back so, what do we think this is? And how do I make it full of life again? Thanks!
The leaf shape looks like a Chinese elm
1 j'aime I'd unpot it and check the roots are healthy. But since the leaves are green that's a good sign. I'd check over for pests, give it a fertilization for trees, then just treat it like normal. And ideally come spring it'll fill out. They are deciduous, so naturally loose leaves fall/winter. They do weird things if kept inside where they can't get that cold and dormancy
1 j'aime Thank you so much :) I notice a few little green buds on it, so I figured it couldn’t be too bad and for how cheap it was I felt like it was worth the gamble

You could trim down the stems ,I did it to mine and it's already budding .
