I wanted to post this plant in both Bonsai Matters and Plant Recovery Room because, as you can see, it needs all the help it can get! I’m hoping that this plant can saved with the help of the plant community. A little background: I found an old (jade?) plant covered in mites and spiders in a broken pot. I think it was abandoned in my neighbors back yard from the previous owners and has been there struggling for 3-4 years, if not more. I’m hoping this plant can be a intro for me into more advanced gardening and the beginning stages of learning Bonsai. It’s in a cracked pot, but I’m interested in testing my green thumb, and Planta’s Community Groups and plant care reminders. Fingers crossed for a successful and unique outcome!

    Starting bonsai from a sick plant is an uphill battle. Everything about bonsai is stressful to the plant so you really want to start off with a healthy specimen. This plant looks pretty dry to me. I would cut off any wrinkled stems and scratch a bit at the bark to see if it’s still alive

      Thanks! I figured that the plant is almost dead anyways, so I’ve got a low investment into it. I cut back A LOT and have soaked it, moved it to a spot with ideal sun exposure, and will replant once it has bounced back. Thanks for the help, @9s!
