I have to buy some all-purpose potting mix for a few of my indoor houseplants that I’m planning to repot: 2 peperomias and 2 Hostas. Does anyone have any brand recommendations? I’ve heard that I should avoid Miracle Grow, and I’ve seen good reviews on FoxFarm’s soil, but the only brand I can vouch for is Espoma for their succulent soil, and I’m new to foliage plants, so I have yet to try any all-purpose potting mixes. Any advice is greatly appreciated.
Honestly I just get the cheapest brand and then get some perlite and mix them together😂

0 likesI think I straight up use miracle grow, It’s like the bag with the huge pink flower on it. And honestly all my plants seem to do just fine with it. Since I basically mix it one to one with perlite I think it adds enough drainage that It’s fine

I have had problems with miracle grow, they have way too much peat in it and me being in a humid climate that does not work well together for indoor houseplants. I got a cactus succulent mix from target and it seems to be working a lot better (it’s kept indoors instead of the outdoors before being sold), I also mix it with chunky perlite and orchid bark and that seems to make my plants really happy
1 like Thanks! That’s my concern too. I live in PA but our zone recently changed cause of global warming from zone 6b to 7a. It’s especially humid in the summer here, and even if they’re indoor houseplants, I really don’t wanna kill them with the miracle grow.
1 like Ugh yeah, I’ve been in PA during the summer, NOT FUN, lol. I’m in NC now and it’s already starting to get sticky. Exactly, also, with miracle grow being kept outside before being sold it just opens up the possibility of getting pest eggs and all that gross stuff lol. I think the mix will work well for you too then, I also keep some fans going inside during the summer to help with air flow (keeps mold and plant pest issues down) and because I’m running AC all day which doesn’t help dry out my plants’ soil as much as when the heating is on.

0 likesI use miracle grow moisture control for most plants, and miracle grow cactus & palm for my succulents. I’ve had great luck with both!

Fox Farm is the best base medium in my opinion. I use some version of it as the basefor most of my mixes.

0 likes Back to report my findings. I’ve had a lot of great luck with Espoma’s Organic Cactus and Succulent Mix, so I decided to try their All-Purpose Mix. Very happy to report it’s been going great so far, and I’ve repotted my peperomias with it. It dries out the perfect amount. I didn’t feel a need to add extra perlite. It’s about $7-9 where I live, the same price as the cactus mix. I picked it up at a local nursery and really had to hunt for anything other than Miracle Grow as they’re the only brand sold in Home Depot and Lowe’s in PA and the only box stores you can find anything other than Miracle Grow in is Ace Hardware cause they’re independently owned. Wanted to mention that if anyone else is trying to find something other than Miracle Grow.
