I have 3 of these pots hanging on our fence. We have tried multiple plants that last few years and nothing seems to live (or live longer than maybe a month). I think it is a watering issue - the water doesn't soak in fast enough before it all spills over the edge (no matter how slow I water). I have tried adding rocks to the top inch but they kept ending up on the ground (particularly blame the birds for that 😅).Any thoughts or suggestions on what could make a plant survive at the spring and summer?

    use aerated soil that doesn’t get hydrophobic

    I recommend replacing the pot and hanger to ones that will keep the pot level. This will keep the water from draining off. Get one where the pot is easily removed from the plant hanger. Use plastic pots. Easy to remove to water or fertilize. Easier to replace the plant hanger/soil. I can’t adequately address why the plants don’t survive in that location. It could be location, soil, fertilization, watering and several other reasons. I have a south facing entry. I keep two 18 inch pots with blooming annuals because the Texas heat can be tough on potted plants requiring a lot of watering and maintenance. I am forced to use annuals on my front entry. I change them out in spring and fall. I recommend using annuals that can grow in that area. 🪴🍀

    You could try one of those bubble water holders. At the back of it. That way it'd slowly add water in. The other option would be if they are easily detached. Bottom water them fir 30 mins.

    One thing I think you could do to make the pots not “tilt” is to wedge something between the bottom back of the pot and the fence. Hard to describe, but I hope you know what I mean. Because the pot is tapered, and smaller at the bottom, you need something to push the bottom of the pot away from the fence. That would make the top of the pot straight, not tilted. Something like…a wedge of wood? Or even better, If you are handy and have access to the right power tools, you could use some scrap wood, cut a hole the size of about half way up from the bottom of the pot, measure how much space you need between the hole and the fence. then slip it up, over the bottom of the pot to where it holds the pot the right distance from the fence. (Very convoluted way to describe it. I hope you get the gist. )

    The other thing is that terra cotta pots really suck up the water. Find some cute glazed pots (or glaze them yourself). That would keep the water from evaporating so quickly.
