For those of you that make your own chunky soil mixes…. What do you use? I’ve just been using an indoor soil potting mix I get at Walmart but I’ve been wanting to try something new when it comes time to repot some of my babies or as I get new plants.
I use a cactus succulent soil and then I mix it with perlite and orchid bark, seems to work well so far!
2 Mi piace I also love having those kind of additives to my soil, because then I can amend it how I like and if one plant needs more aeration and another one needs more water retention I just switch the ratios up. I get my cactus soil mix from target (feels better that it’s totally indoors and climate controlled versus outdoor bags), and my perlite from Lowe’s and I found orchid bark from Amazon

Orchid bark, chunky perlite, coco chips, horticultural charcoal, and a little coco coir. I get everything from Amazon

I use Fox Farm ocean forest as my base — it’s rich and fairly chunky right out of the bag — and add things in that others have listed case by case. I like to have perlite, fir bark and/or coco coir, peat moss, and worm castings on hand.
