I'm wondering what soil/medium people use for their tropical plants? I've recently discovered the miracle grow potting soil I was using is the cause of my massive fungas gnat infestation. I have a variety of plant types, from succulents and cacti, to tropicals and non tropicals. I need to repot everything and want to make sure it's going into the best medium possible!
I mix miracle grow with add ins (sphangum moss, perlite, orchid bark). I know it tends to have pests but its whats readily available so i just treat for pests before they pop up

If you’re in the US, I’ve been using Target brand soil for all my plants and use amendments to change the soil consistency based on the plant. Target soil to me has been amazing, it’s always stored inside and is bone dry when you open the bag which means that there’s no breeding ground for all the pests that love miracle grow’s dampness and poor storage situation

fox farms and some mix ins is great - it has beneficial bacteria/fungi in it which is great! it also has good nutrient content, and several varieties for different purposed :)

Fox farm and ammendments. I just started using Microbe Lift BMG, just 2-3 drops in the watering jug each time. And it's been amazing. I git an influx of plants and the beneficial nematodes I use could not keep up. Someone on here mentioned it. It's for ponds, so you don't need much. It's available at the petstores or places with ponds like a nursery
Mosquito bits “tea” is a great way to combat fungus gnat larvae in your soil to kill and prevent another infestation, along with the yellow sticky traps to kill the adults. For tropical soil, as others have mentioned Fox Farms Ocean with amendments is my go to blend. Not cheap, but if you do a 1:1 mix of Fox Farms and an Aroid blend (like Molly’s) it makes the process a lot faster / easier
