Hello! I’m brand new to plants and was wondering if anyone could help. I just got these two plants and I was wondering what size pots are appropriate for them. The first plant is a dragon tree and the second is a corn plant, I believe. The dragon tree is 1.72 gallons and currently in the nursery pot that I bought it in. The corn plant is 1.40qts and also in the nursery pot. What sizes are appropriate for these plants? And what sort of soil? I bought indoor soil but I also heard tropical soil is good for the dragon tree. I bought two pots that they’re sort of pictured in but it looks like they’re going to be much too small. The dragon plant pot is 8.62x6.62 and the corn plant pot is 5.7x5.7x4.92. The corn plant looks closer in size tho. I appreciate any help!

    Welcome to the plant family. I’ve got a couple of questions before I give you advice. Why do you want to repot these plants? Or more importantly do they need to be repotted? Are they outgrowing their pots? Are you planning on changing their soil for some reason?

      Good questions. I just discovered that I shouldn’t repot them since I just acquired them. I had no other reason, I was more so wondering what size of pot would fit them to where i won’t have to see the nursery pots.

      Hi and welcome Alex. Generally speaking, you want the pot to be little taller and a little wider than your nursery pot. So, your Dragon needs approximately a 9x8 or larger and the corn needs a 6x6 or larger

      When I purchased new plants, I just keep them in the nursery pots and pop them into a decorative cover pot that matches my decor.

    I usually give new plants a month or so to get used to my house before i repot. When i do “repot” i do it based on the size of the root ball (2 inches bigger than the rootball) if it works i just keep in the same pot with new dirt
