Passing on some fertilizer knowledge I got from a plant guy at Armstrong; I have been using miracle grow indoor outdoor potted plants fertilizer pump for months and itā€™s been amazing! No plant burn, no bad smell, no dripping. I ran out and went to Armstrong they didnā€™t have any of that kind but I was looking at all the ā€œspecialtyā€ fertilizers for succulents, indoor blooming vs indoor foliage, lucky bamboo specific, African violet specific, etc. I figured I was inexperienced in plant care and a ā€œbadā€ plant mom using a one size fits all approach so I went to buy one of each! The cashier asked me why I was buying so many, I told him my assumption and he asked how all my plants were doing with my current fertilizer-amazing no problems. He said DONT FIX WHATS NOT BROKEN most of these bottles are just marketing, difference in chemical analysis on the bottles can be really tiny and you ā€œloseā€ 1/2 your fertilizer out the bottom of your pot anyway so donā€™t worry so much. I only bought orchid food for my air plant because I was scared to fertilize that one for the first time with the pump fertilizer. Just so yā€™all knowšŸ’•

    Good points. Advertising and influencers had me second guessing my fertilizer choices. Iā€™ve been using the original Miracle Gro since baby Jesus! I added SuperThrive last year based on recommendations from Planta people and reading all the accolades. They work well on all my plants. I just change the dilution. I added spray-on-leaf type orchid fertilizer as recommended by a hoya seller. I didnā€™t notice any difference. So, I went back to Miracle Gro. šŸŒ¼

    Itā€™s important to be aware of what your goals are and what the nitrogen/phosphorus/potassium balance is in the fertilizer youā€™re using. if youā€™ve got bloomers, you want to use something where the middle number (phosphorus) is highest For succulents, you want to look for the first number (nitrogen) to be lowest. For fruits & veggies, you want the third number (potassium) to be highest For most everything else I use a 1:1:1 ratio of all three with great success ā€” and a gentle, organic version of this ratio wonā€™t harm plants if you want to stick to a one-for-all method Hope this helps!

      This helps so much! The thing is with my plants I donā€™t have goals other than STAY ALIVE PLEASEšŸ˜‚ so one size fits all pump fertilizer has helped in my case

    For my air plant I use the weak weekly method. Dump them in a bowl for an hour and fish them out and hang to dry. They seem to do well. All of them have produced roots and attached themselves to the mounts and have produced keikis. I should tell you Iā€™ve taken some on vacation with me camping. Along with a small mounted orchid. This hobby sometimes makes me stop and take stock of myself. So far Iā€™m good with it šŸ˜†šŸ˜†šŸ˜†
