I watched a YouTube video today that said water conditioner for fish can make tap water safe for plants, too. Have you tried this? Would you agree? I spend about $40/month on distilled water, so Iām open to an easier and more cost-effective option, if it really is just as good for my plants. That being said, Iād probably still water my most finicky plant friends (spider plants, rattlesnakes, & stromanthe triostar) with distilled.
this is my favorite plant care item since living in town with chlorinated tap water. i donāt ever recommend distilled since itās so resource-intensive (rough on the environment) and cost-prohibitive for plant parents on a budget. first, i run the tap water through a pitcher filter, then pour into the watering can with a drop of water conditioner per gallon of water. sometimes iāll add a touch of white vinegar since i know our tap water is slightly alkaline. my stromanthe triostar and goeppertia orbifolia get this or rainwater and are thriving. iām interested to hear why youāre watering spider plants with distilled water. iāve never had a problem with them being watered with straight tap water and new jerseyās tap water is quite poor quality
6 gillningar I read that spider plants prefer distilled. My momās spider plants never seem to give a darn, but mine are fussier. I have noticed a lot less brown on them since I switched to distilled.
1 gilla interesting, i have heard theyāre sensitive to fluoride but didnāt notice much of a difference with crispy tips when i switched to rainwater for my spiders. this could also be because of my tendency to underwater though; i have simply accepted that spider plantsā leaves get crispy on the edges eventually

Yes this is what Iāve been doing for a long time & itās the best! I use one called AquaSafe. Itās like $7 and I use 1/4th of a teaspoon per gallon so it lasts a long time

Definitely works for removing chlorine and chloramine! I might avoid stress coat+ because it has additional ingredient such as aloe, which Iām not sure how it would affect plants. Not that I think it will hurt the plants, but I wonder if it would build up in the soil over time and get weird Before I got into too many plants, I had too many fish tanks š My favorite conditioner was Seachem Prime. You only need like a drop per gallon, so it lasts forever unless you have a 400 gallon fish tank š It does have an odd smell thatāll make your nose curl before you dilute it though lol

Use this for all my plants. 2-3 drops per gallon. Works great for marantas, calatheas, ect. I still have to use PH down with my tap water. Tap water is pretty alkaline where Iām living.
