Good morning plantie people! I have been seeing a lot of people using clear plastic pots lately. Can anyone let me know what the pros and cons are? Photo for attention.

    Pros: you can easily monitor roots and moisture levels in the soil. Cons: roots don’t really like direct sun light, so it’s good to have them in a decorative pot/cover pot.

    I have my snake plant in a glass pot, I love watching the roots grow and I use it to monitor their health, and water levels. I was able to catch on to a case of root rot and intervened early. I have an affinity for overwatering, unfortunately, and seeing the soil moisture through out is a HUGE benefit to me. Downside, drainage is limited in these containers in my experience. I hope this helps! Please post a picture if you end up getting a pot like that!

    You can easily see bugs like soil mealies and millipedes. The down side is algae can easily grow because of the light exposure and moisture. You can drop it into an opaque outer pot to block most of the light as suggested. 🪴🍀

    I used to be really excited about my clear plastic but now I'm honestly into shallow terracotta but I do love being able to see the roots progress, I still like them for my more aggressive tropicals that can handle deeper plastic and moisture well. But for my succulents and more sensitive folks, no more. But I love seeing my Philos and alocasia roots expanding for example very helpful, when it works.
