What kind of pots are y’all using when your plants are in bigger pots? I’m a fan of terracotta and pretty much everything is currently in terracotta pots, but I have two that are in 8” terracotta pots with roots poking out the drainage hole. And probably two more that’ll be doing the same by the end of summer. They’re definitely ready to go bigger but the price of larger terracotta is crazy. (Also one is on a moss pole so that probably doesn’t help) I can’t believe how quick the price jumps up in one size difference! What are you guys using? Where are you shopping?

    roots coming out of the bottom is commonly misinterpreted as a need to repot — roots follow the water so it’s normal to see some peeking out, and you probably don’t need to shell out any money to size up yet. if you’ve got full blown spaghetti roots coiling out of the drainage hole then that’s a different story lol I am also a big fan of terra cotta — they get pricier when they get bigger but it’s still peanuts compared to glazed pots of the same size.

      They’re pretty bad 😅 one is a golden pothos so that one I’m not too worried about hanging out for a while longer, mostly just keeping it on my radar of to-do’s, but the other is a standleyana albo. Also going crazy with aerial root growth, and there’s a pretty chunky moss pole shoved down in there and it’s technically like 5 plants in one pot so I’m sure it’s a mess lol. I’d probably be more into shelling out for a nicer big terracotta pot for that one over the golden.

      pothos are amenable to root trimming so you could always remove roots, refresh the soil and stick it right back in the same pot!

    Check thrift stores if you have any nearby! I always find a ton of terra cotta pots. Most commonly 4" - 8" but sometimes bigger. Def can't beat the price

    Do you happen to have an ‘At Home’ store in your area? They have great prices for larger pots.

    While Terra Cotta is great for succulents, P Allen Smith recommends(and I follow that advice) Resin for plants that start to get quite large. They are lightweight to move and no not crack in the deep freeze winters here.
