Hey guys! I had a question about neem oil. When you spray it on the plants, do you wipe it off? Do you leave it? Or just wipe the to if the leaves? Which do you guys recommend? Which do you use for African violets? My violet

    When I used neem oil I found it worked minimally on pests and just ended up clogging the pores of the leaves and overtime the plants declined in health so I stopped and used soapy water to clean the neem oil off as best as possible and the plants started doing better and now I use other pest control methods.

      Remove the top 2-3 inches of soil, this is where they lay their eggs. Replace with dry soil mix and try to extend the time until you water so that new top soil stays dry. In the mean time put those sticky stakes into the plants. You may have to do this a couple times but eventually the population will be depleted.

      Honestly I’ve tried all sorts for fungus gnats: in the end, the only thing that actually worked for my plants was buying nematodes and mites that specifically kill fungus gnats.

    Usually you don’t on leaves that are fuzzy… plus I learned that using Neem oil can actually cause problems… it will build up around the roots like glue and choke off the roots. And it isn’t eco friendly. It will kill aquatic life, pollinators, I use Arber products. They are organic and EPA approved.

    Sorry hit send to soon… it’s great for leaf shine, it will protect the roots from pests and root rot.. I highly recommend all their products!

    I don’t personally have violets, but for my collection I swear by bonide systemic houseplant insect control! I haven’t had any bad pest problems since I’ve started using it combined with neem oil every once in a while. Personally I put them in the shower to spray them down (less mess and confines the neem oil smell to one area) and I try to get every spot I can. I don’t rinse it off right away but I’ll usually do it a week or two before I spray/wipe the dust off my collection. I also sprinkle cinnamon on top of the soil when I remember to prevent fungus gnats
