I bought some really pretty pots but I didn’t realize that they didn’t have drainages in the bottom. I want to add them so I can still have the pot but my plants will get plenty of drainage. Has anyone tried to put drainage holes in the bottom of ceramic pots? Any tips?
Do what Katie said. Thats the best thing for your plants rather that potting directly in ceramic. Use fancy pots as a cache-pot and be able to take plant in and out of it (in its plastic nursery pot) when you water. Its also way easier when it comes time to repot to get your plant out of flexible plastic.

This is one of my favorite things! I like Diamond drill bit (hollow in center) and/or masonry drill bits. Use your drill at low speed only and drill in water (the bits dull faster if you let them get hot while drilling).

I do the same thing that Katie does, except sometimes the pots I buy come with a clear plastic instert for drainage. You could also add some pebbles (an inch or two) at the bottom of the pot to help separate the water from the soil when the water runs through it.

I saw with ceramic as long as it’s fully emerged in water you can drill a hole in them but you have to be carful. But with my pots I usually use the nursery pot and use the pot itself to catch the excess water

I’ve heard about submerging the pot in water making sure it’s full underwater and taking a screwdriver and punching a hole in much riskier technique but nun the less another to try
