My neighbour keeps getting this fuzzy white spots on his plant which is 10+ years old. Anybody know what it is? Or how to fix it?

I might need to learn how to root again. Even my obliqua seems less responsive. Hoping to grow more and keep my plant at its best. Wanting them to be more excited for themselves with the recent chill.

Hi! I’ve had a recent thought but can’t decide on the logical outcome- I wonder if mixing in cedar chips with mixtures would help prevent pests. One side of my brain thinks it would. The other side thinks it might catalyze decomp and mold/fungus. But I have orchid bark in a lot of my mixtures which is also technically wood-like, and that’s recommended as an additive. Thoughts?

Ok folks, I have a minor crisis. My plants look like dried leaves due to low humidity, I’m very allergic to mold, and for that reason I can’t get a humidifier. I have a small tabletop fountain and I was wondering if a fish tank mist maker ( ultrasonic vibrating disk that separates water molecules ) would work? it creates large amounts of fine mist and is often used for Halloween effects. I was thinking this might work to raise humidity… only problem is wouldn’t all that moisture just settle on the walls? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I’m new to houseplants, some of my first purchases I repotted into a ceramic pot and now would like all my plants in clear plastic dropped into the ceramic. Would it cause too much stress to repot if I bought and repotted around 5 weeks ago? Or am I over thinking this…

Does anybody has this experience with Baltic blue pothos? Hi I’m noticing that my Baltic blue pothos stops growing in the winter( no matter the amount of light ) and for the past 2 years it only grows in spring and summer. So is it a pothos that goes dormant during wintertimes? I haven’t done much research on it but I’ve seen one website saying “it commonly going dormant in winter” I have some evidence on this: Currently I have 3 plants of “Baltic blue”; the mother plant, one in water and 1 stem on a plank. From September to February ALL 3 plants didn’t produce any leaves even the new growth it was growing died but the rest of the plant stayed green. Now currently all 3 started growing 2 weeks ago ( at the end of March ) Ps. I’m not under or over watering them if u was thinking that. In the pic below I’ve only watered the plank pothos once every 2 weeks (the planked pothos has an neon,golden,cebu blue and Baltic blue on it) the Baltic blue is the only one that stopped growth.

Hello! I just bought this birds nest snake plant and I was a bit confused when it has a large amount of water in the base and the soil was soaking wet. I always thought snake plants likes to be kept pretty dry. This ones roots are coming out the bottom and it looks like there’s a baby growing in there too. Honestly it doesn’t look bad to me sl I wanted to make sure. Anyways, it didn’t even come with a real price tag, let alone care instructions. How moist should I keep this soil?

Hi all, a more advanced question for us planters: My plants are currently in glazed ceramic pots. I'm thinking about moving most of them to terracotta because it's more porous. 1) I'm curious if any of you have noticed your plants do better in terracotta pots, and 2) would the repotting be stressful for my plants IF I don't actually change out the soil (the roots wouldn't get exposed to air) or change the size of the pot?

does anyone know how to get gnats out of the soil of my plants and why it is happening?

Anyone have any suggestions for my White Fusion? She was doing so well and then all of the sudden, bam, started drooping. I missed watering by only one day! I've been very consistent since I heard she is finiky. Her soil stays lightly moist and she's partially under a grow light. Only thing I can think is humidity? My apartment averages 50% 🤷🏼‍♀️

I think my plant was attacked. Will it still grow and bear fruit. This happened last night.

I have a very serious question that I can’t seem to get a clear cut answer and I need to speak to a professional. Some of you will probs laugh at me but I’m freaking out a bit about the root rot fungus (particularly the one that creates orange color)… can humans catch it, like if I was removing dead roots with my bare hands and have a hang nail or tiny cut? Or if a cactus that had the root rot fungus poked me? I should’ve been wearing gloves and definitely will from now on because I’ve freaked myself out. I read some of the symptoms online about systemic fungus infections and I feel like I do have some of those symptoms. I think I’m gonna call and make an appointment tomorrow to get a blood test, but if someone knew in this group with certainty it would ease my mind. I’ve tried researching it but there doesn’t seem to be any information on it that is clear cut. One thing I hate about Google, lack of good info… lots of bad or misleading info though lol. And like I’ve got several buckets of pon that I need to boil to sterilize… sitting out…can the spores get out and like spread? Don’t laugh at me I know I’m stupid it’s just bothering me that I don’t know for certain about these things. I would be devastated if I made someone in my home sick, or myself obviously.

What could be wrong with my zebra plant? Is being under watered? I’m watering it about once a week to a week and a half

My dad just gifted me this beautiful bird of paradise! I believe it’s the white variety (correct me if I’m wrong) any tips on keeping it happy and healthy are appreciated. I have it in a south facing window not sure if that’s a good space, I can move it further away but like it here aesthetically. Thank you in advance!

Have you guys ever gotten annoyed of how big and how fast they grow and reproduce? Is there any way for me to humanely kill one or deprive it of something without feeling guilty? Also, if you disagree with this, prove to me why I should kill or deprive my spider plant? No hate, I love plants and animals.

Any Idea’s to why my philodendron fuzzy Petiole Has 2 new leafs Coming in brown? They are still growing in size & stem is still Green/looks healthy!

Here’s another comment that I just want to say because I feel like it 👍👍: Plants are the most amazing thing ever. People still ask me “why plants?”. My answer is “they never cease to amaze me”. I definitely don’t have a green thumb. I wish I did but I don’t, no matter how hard I try all my plants never just thrive, they all just exist. And that makes my so sad because I try so hard to help them. I spend time to keep them happy. But they just still exist. My friends think I’m a wizard when it comes to plants, but I’m not. But I was today years old, after 4 years of being a plant parent, that all you need to do to make you plants happy is not to mother them. You should just water when they are thirsty, and don’t stress! I’m not saying you shouldn’t check up on them everyday or not remove bugs, but what I’m saying it they will be a lot happier if you just don’t stress about small imperfections or stuff like that but focus on what they need and what they want. Tbh I don’t know if that made any sense whatsoever. To a few of you I might seem like a idiot, but it works for me!! Stay safe ✌️!

I know there’s discourse over whether to cut an inflorescence or not but I’ve recently read it can disrupt the plant’s natural hormonal cycle if we cut them off and they also might try to produce another when it’s cut off so it could theoretically deplete the plant’s energy even more and disrupt it from producing more leaves quicker. This was research from LariAnn Garner who’s been creating and producing hybrids (like regal shields and dark star) of alocasias since the 70s and has degrees in plant biology and such! I thought it was really cool because I didn’t even know plants *had* hormones! Just thought I’d share 🥰 If there is conflicting research please let me know!

I bought this striped calathea back in Sept of 2023. It came with some yellowing and random holes (1&3 pic) then the leaves began to curl and wilt (2nd pic). I changed the soil to potting soil and began watering with filtered water and it looked much better (4th pic) but now it’s back to what it looks like in the 2nd pic! Pls help I love this plant so much!! I do have it near a grow light but not under it, maybe that’s the problem?? I have it on scheduled watering so it shouldn’t be over/underwatered.
