I have all but given up on my poor fiddle leaf fig, she has a total of 5 leaves left, do we think a chop is worth it and how should I go about doing that, thank you in advance!!!

    Hey, this is mine after being a 5 foot leggy thing. If you’re looking for an excuse to cut this is it, I was so afraid but look at it now 3 months later, it’s got 5 new branches developing their own leaves each. Just make sure you cut right above a growth node, give it plenty of light by placing it close to a window where it can see the sky or a grow light for about 12-14 hours.. water however planta tells you, I still do the stick method to check because you really don’t want to overwater while it’s regrowing.     Would you be able to show me about where I would want to chop? I think she lost most of her leaves because she was too close to a vent and when the seasons changed the cold air made her inner drama queen show itself lol. At least if I chop her she will fit in my indoor greenhouse, I’m sure she would like it much better in there. Thank you this might just be the push I need!

      The nodes are where a leaf used to be, I won’t be able to tell you how much to cut because I don’t know the size of your plant but I can tell you that mine being 5 foot tall and having those 2 little sticks holding all the weight the leaves were putting on it, it only had leaves on the top and also two poles for each branch for support. So what I did was cut it closer to the trunk so it would give the trunk some more strength and sturdiness so it can regrow without support and have more branches. I may not have answered your question but you’re the only one that knows where to cut. Also keep in mind that the lower you cut, the longer it will take to look how you want it to, takes time and a LOT of patience. I wanted a thicker trunk but had no other choice but to cut that low

    It think you should chop and prop just in case. I don’t know how to because I don’t own one. Good luck

      Thank you! Hopefully the brighter light and warmer environment in my greenhouse will FINALLY make her picky self happy lol

    for the cuttings with leaves, you may need to trim the leaves to make them smaller so the cutting doesn't lose water. i actually had more success with cuttings that had all of their leaves removed. chopping is definitely worth it! when in doubt, chop and prop!!

      Thank you! Do I need to do anything different to prop a flf or is it just like a normal chop and plop in water

      let them dry out before putting them in water. i let mine dry overnight. they take a while to start doing anything, if you get worried you can scratch a little bit of bark off with your fingers, if it's green underneath it's still alive
