My limelight Dracaena has this strange mottling appearance on the leaves, anyone have any insight? Water 1x a week with distilled water and half strength fertilizer, positioned approx. 60 cm from my tall and narrow west facing window. The leaves have been growing in like this for about 8 months now.
That mottling looks like chronic light stress mixed with possible mineral imbalance. Your setup sounds gentle — 60 cm from a west window is decent — but Limelight can be picky about light diffusion. If the window’s narrow, it might be getting uneven exposure, especially in winter. The distilled water is great for avoiding fluoride burn, but paired with half-strength fertilizer, it might be missing some micronutrients over time. I’d try rotating the plant weekly for even light and maybe switching to a complete fertilizer once a month. Also, check for root congestion — sometimes leaf texture reflects what’s happening below.
