My neighbour keeps getting this fuzzy white spots on his plant which is 10+ years old. Anybody know what it is? Or how to fix it?

    mealy bugs! And that definitely looks like a jade plant (crassula ovata). Fungus gnats and mealy bugs are just about the only thing that tries to get jade plants. You can treat the leaves by soaking q-tips with isopropyl alcohol and wiping the “white spots” (they’re likely bugs if they keep showing up, and if they aren’t, it won’t hurt the plant). Be sure to let your neighbor know so he can check any other plants he has for other bugs

      Then fill a spray bottle with a mixture of 1 1/3 cup water, 1/3 cup rubbing alcohol, and a couple drops of dawn dish soap, and spray the mixture all over the plant. You can repeat this every week until they stop coming back. Wipe every “white spot” off with the q-tips. If it’s a large enough infestation, you can soak a paper towel with the rubbing alcohol to wipe off the plant as much as you can. And if it’s been going on for a while on this plant, check the soil and roots if you can. Lemme know if there’s any damage in the roots. I have a 30 year old jade and I can walk you through how to treat it if there are any pests in the soil or root rot.

      My jade plant got mealy bugs a couple years ago and can confirm this is perfect advice and q-tips work well
