This beauty I found at a plant shop today and I couldn't resist! When repotting, there was a bit of root rot because the nursery had it in a cloth start bag that wasn't removed đŸ€Šâ€â™€ïž I removed all the rotted roots and bag, but it still has a pretty sizable root cluster I feel. How concerned should I be about her survival? Obv, I will do anything to keep her alive and healthy. Also what should I do if it starts showing signs of transplant shock? (I had to be a little firm while removing all the fabric bits) I think that's my biggest concern.

    Pretty Thai Constellation! How much of the roots did you have to remove? Sounds like not a ton but keep an eye, and maybe don’t expect too much by way of new leaves while it focuses on re-establishing roots. Of course, don’t over water. If you’re looking for a good fertilizer, gold leaf is good. Tbh I’ve only ever had transplant shock once and that was with an established rubber tree - no idea why. With my monsteras, philodendrons etc I just do it super quickly, and they usually don’t seem to notice.

      I removed some thin, "sickly" looking roots almost all the way up to the base at the center of the cluster. These were simply choked and rotting with no where to grow out 😬 but it had so many good, thick, healthy roots as well that I didn't need to prune. Those roots looked super once I got them untangled. I kept the everything wet as I worked, but the entire process took me about 45 minutes because of how packed the root ball was. It was in the tiniest little 2" pot. I'm hoping she's extra hearty đŸ€ž

      She almost had too many to fit inside the 3" pot. So I'm hoping I didn't remove too many. I know there's a recommendation to only remove 1/3 roots ever all at once

      Tbh you did what I would do (and have done). She may or may not go into transplant shock - in my experience a healthy monstera is pretty hardy and as long as other elements like watering/light/nutrition are good, you should see her bounce back from any shock. Just don’t fuss over her too much for the next couple of weeks - set the right conditions and let her settle đŸ‘đŸœ

      And no rash decisions if she DOES go into shock, wait it out and be consistent:)
