Hi all! Thought Iād share something new and weird that I dealt with latelyā¦. Iāve been rooting a monstera esqueleto cutting for several months now in water and stratum, and the new growth on it was this long vine that kept growing and growing but was never producing any leaves. I kept it forever thinking āwell maybe itāll start producing leaves eventuallyā but it got SO long that I finally thought this will be such a weird looking plant when I pot itā¦I have to do something. So I started doing some research, and turns out that sometimes plants that have been used for propagating a lot or been damaged in other ways can send out these āsuckersā or ārunners,ā which are the plantās attempt to grow with their hormones all out of whack. The best advice I could find was to just cut off the sucker at the node where it starts, and encourage new growth from that node that will have the genetics to produce leaves correctly. Apparently some species of monstera are susceptible to this (especially adansonii, which esqueleto is related to, and monstera peru), and individual plants can be more prone to producing them than others. Anyway, Iāve never dealt with this before, especially while rooting a cutting, so thought Iād share the weirdness!
Got this climber a moss pole!
Advice please, I transplanted my Monstera from the pot it was in for about 18 months. Since then (about a month) it has just been very wilted and slightly crispy on some of the leaves. I havenāt watered it in about 6 days, the soil is well drained and there are holes at the bottom. Thanks!
does anyone know why my monstera doesnāt have any of those splits iāve had her for almost a year and she puts out new leaves all the time but not one has a split, do some not have that or am i doing something wrong š
Thinking about getting a Thai Con. and wondering: are they harder to look after than normal monstera deliciosa? Thanks x
I DID SOMETHING! She should be here in a couple days š±āØ
Got this big baby at Trader Joeās for $20 bucks! She has some bad travel damage and perhaps a tiny bit of fungus⦠plus she is SUPER root bound! She is a large plant though, I donāt have any experience in supporting her. She is long tall and lanky, plus fragile! Not a great combo Any help is greatly appreciatedšš ( sorry about the mess in the the background )
Then vs Now! This is by far my favorite plant to date!šæš May 2023 ā”ļø Today!
Hi, I'm asking for my in-laws, she has this Monstera and it does not look good. I think that it is overwatered but I'm not sure. It doesn't have a drainage holes as she pot it straight in the decorative pot but she put some rocks on the bottom of the soil. What will be the remedy for this plant? If we repot it into a plastic - growing pot and put fresh soil, do we cut off all the bad leaves or leave it as is? Thanks in advance!
So I was grocery shopping and couldnāt leave this one at the store, so Iām branching out with my first Monsteraā¦Say Hello to Monkey Mask, Adansonās Monstera, Swiss Cheese. Hereās hoping I can keep it happy!!
I got this gorgeous monstera cutting from a prop swap yesterday but the one leaf is curling a bit. I put her in about 1/3 bark and 2/3 regular indoor potting soil. I have her next to north and west facing windows and the lamp next to her has a grow light bulb in it. Iāve never owned a large monstera before so Im not sure if the leaf curling is normal or if I should be worried. Anyone know?!
my monstera used to have so many leaves and it was really healthy but since the summer it lost most of the leaves, even though some of them were only just growing in. any advice on how to recover it?
Hi! āš¾How would you bring this beauty back to health? I suspect itās overwatered and maybe needs to be repotted. How big should the pot be? What kind of plant food would you use? What should I know?
Then vs Now 3 Years ⢠Occasional fertilizing ⢠Plenty of sun/Grow Light! I am about to repot her with another monstera and add a moss pole cause sheās tipping over. I had to put 2 container full of rocks to weight her down. š
My newest rescue from the plant shelter š . There was standing water in the pot, but not for too long judging by the overall condition. Hopefully I dried her out in time! The most satisfying part is always the āwelcome homeā bath!
This is a rescue monstera a friend tasked me with saving. I did some pruning a few weeks ago and itās had a TON of new growth since. Including this. Has anyone seen something like this before?
Third new leaf this winter.

š Hey monstera lovers! I got this Thai constellation a couple days ago and Iām so excited about it! Iām also a little nervous since it was definitely more expensive than my other monstera (free from a friend moving). My question is - should I repot it? It has a new leaf unfurling so I donāt want to stress it out. But it also has roots coming out of the bottom of the pot. There also appears to be a root that didnāt get potted well at the nursery? Idk what to do. I just donāt want to kill it accidentally š³
