Hi! I need help with my monstera. It recently began browning on a couple of its leaves, and I thought maybe it’s just because it’s so dry here in Arizona so I made sure to diligently mist and watch my watering. But now even my new leaves are browning. I don’t want to hurt him or his new leaves! Advice??? For context i’m a beginner plant mom and have had my monstera for less than a year.

have you fertilized the plant ever? “ghost leaves” like this are common on monstera that have depleted the nutrients in their pot.

I’ve been following Planta’s fertilization recommendations. But maybe I am not doing it frequently enough? How often do you recommend?

it’s possible your fertilizer is lacking in certain nutrients or something else is going on. i fertilize my monstera (deliciosa and adansonii) with an 8-1-5 (foliage focus) fertilizer almost every watering and have excellent growth. though, i also know for sure that i’ve got the lighting and watering right as well as growing media. knowing these factors can help us diagnose your plant further

I posted about this issue once and someone on here mentioned that misting the new leaves can cause them to ‘rot’ or turn brown before they open up. I’ve been careful about not misting new leaves and haven’t had the problem again. As far as the established leaves browning, I kinda think overwatering (?). If the browning happens in little spots all over the leaves it can be a sign of being over watered. Make sure the soil is never sopping wet (maybe check the roots for root rot too). Good luck!

I’ll also point out that misting doesn’t really change the humidity around the plant, so maybe you’re over misting and the water just sitting on the leaves is damaging them? You could try adding a humidifier by the plant and stop misting all together. Would love updates if you figure anything out!

These like to dry out. Underwatering is always better than over, esp with a monstera. I fertilize every other watering in the growing season. Like Janie said, I would stop misting and get a little humidifier to run instead. misting with the sprayer can be ok, but to me the risks (rot, burn, fungus…) aren’t worth it. ALSO I recommend a moss pole. I see you have a coco pole which will provide stability with ties, but a true sphag moss pole will allow the aerial roots to..well root lol and get more moisture that way!
