I'm new to the chat. What are people saying is wrong with moss poles?

Some plant enthusiasts are moving away from moss poles due to the high maintenance required, the risk of rot, and the lack of necessity for many common vining houseplants. For many growers, the drawbacks outweigh the benefits, especially when there are easier alternatives. BUUUUTTTTT, I love them! I have them on several of my plants and they are doing great!

I love moss poles. I sink a terracotta spike in the top and tip a wine bottle in it. The moss poles stay a consistent moisture and have never had root rot. I use them on all my monstera’s and I have a pink princess Philo growing up one

Same I don’t buy the wood ones because the stakes at the bottom have rotted on me I use a d shaped ones I get from Amazon and I get some good Sphagnum moss and boom plant doing great! I use this on my monsteras and my philodendrons and my golden pothos that I have growing vertically

same. I fill my own with spaghnam moss although I am intrigued with the people that just use cedar planks. I might try with my Hawaiian pothos once it is ready for support.

Yes this is what I get told I should use but I really like making my own moss poles and they haven’t failed me yet!
