Hi everyone! My main Monstera plant is starting to show signs of needing to be repotted. Any suggestions on how I should do so? Thank you so much.

Hi! I’d be hesitant to say it needs to be repotted just yet. I think the yellow leaf is due to the fact that it was an older leaf which will happen. I’d repot only if you observe the following: 1) You are having to water every two to three days because the soil is drying up too fast 2) Roots are sticking out from the top of the soil or you have another way to see that is very root bound 3) You can barely stick a rod or chopstick into the soil because it is compact with roots Monsteras do like to be a little root bound so no need to do it now, I think. Unless you would really like to :)

I had suggest a repot in a post below because she hasn't repotted in 6yrs

With a big plant like this, I tackle it 1 of 2 ways. Either wrapped the plant foliage up in paper and tape it. Or if I think it will be fine and the leaves won't damage, I carefully tip it on its side, and tap the sides of the pot as I rotate it slightly. Then pull the pot off. If repotting, I'll only go up 1-2" in pot size. If I'm repotting in the same pot, I'll trim off up to 25% of the bottom portion of roots. Put fresh dirt in the bottom of the pot, then set the root ball in, and fill in the rest. I usually sprinkle some Mycorrhizal on the roots to help with transplant shock. And then water well.

I’m no expert but I did mine and almost shocked her to death. Go up a pot just a couple of inches and try and retain as much of the old soil as possible. Mine is slowly coming back but I lost half the plant. They don’t like too much change.
