Hello everyone! I have recently gotten back into my plant addiction… | Monstera Maniacs | Planta-fellesskap

Hello everyone! I have recently gotten back into my plant addiction grind and have been wanting the challenge and satisfaction of growing my monsteras and my new Thai constellation. I was hoping anyone and everyone could give me tips on the following: - best soil for my Thai and all my monsteras? - is it better to buy or make my own soil? - what are the best pots for my monstera? Should I use ceramic with drainage or get clear pots with heavy draining and get a decorative pot? - what is the best plant fertilizer? - HOW do I get my monsteras to have BEAUTIFUL and full green leaves with lots of character? - how should I go about lighting? (I live in a very small apt with 2 methods of lighting aka my bedroom window and my patio) I know this is a lot and overwhelming, but I love my plants and am happy I’ve gotten back into this hobby; I really want to start prioritizing my foliage farm! Thank you all <3

Hi! Yay monsteras ♥️. You don’t have to go crazy with home made soil but I’ve had good luck doing one part houseplant soil one part orchid bark and one park perlite. You want a fast draining soil. They like to be soaked through and then left to dry out. For a pot, just make sure it’s got a nice big drainage hole if you go with ceramic. For light, whatever spot gets the most! I have a southeast facing window and have had good luck. I don’t do anything different for Thai vs my deliciosa but the Thais will always grow slower. Hope this helps!

You’re the best Britney thank you! Do you buy the orchid bark and perlite in bulk/separate? Or have you found a good brand that has that incorporated in soil already?

You can find them at any big box store like Home Depot or at your favorite plant store. I buy separate and then mix together. Don’t worry about the brand of bark or perlite but I tend to trust my local plant shop for a good houseplant soil (no miracle gro in this house 😉)

I swear by the gardenix or naked root pots if you’re feeling nervous about keeping them moist and humid… but not too moist and humid ☺️

Yes I have 2 brands. Honeywell and this Canopy one. Pros/Cons of Canopy: Small tank size, dishwasher safe 😍, internal filtration system, minimal noise, super spendy (wait for sale) Pros/Cons of Honeywell: Super large, mine has a hot/cold steam option, quiet af, but use filtered water because it has no internal filtration system, not dishwasher safe , kinda spendy but they have multiple options
